Twas the Night Before Launch Party when all through the house, not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse………….
Tuesday, September 28th, 2010…..who am I kidding?! There’s plenty of stirring and unfortunately it is not my children into bed. I’m writing a quick post now as I highly doubt that I will have time tomorrow, in between my morning talk in assembly (yet to be written…) and my preparations for the evening. Styling my hair alone will take most of the day.
Seriously, my plans for tomorrow – Launch Party Day – are thus:
– 7am, wake up. Unless youngest daughter has different ideas.
– 8:30am, do talk in assembly ( don’t worry, will also be showered, dressed etc. but am not going to detail the minutiae)
– 9:30am-1pm, tidy my house, prepare self and outfit, check all make-up/tights/shoes are present and correct. Probably email, Skype, facebook, tweet and panic a bit.
– 1pm, collect girls from school. Fend off nagging from husband about ‘have you got everything ready?’ I know he will do the final checks, you see.
– 1:30pm, commence battle with my eldest daughter over launch party outfit.
– 2pm, commence battle with my eldest daughter over launch party outfit shoes.
– 3pm, win battles. Locate cardboard crown for youngest daughter.
– 4pm, check husband has managed to dress himself appropriately. Or at all.
– 4:30pm, pack car with everything I need (books/cutouts/posters/children/husband. In that order) and depart for Winchester.
– 5pm, arrive at Winchester and begin preparations in earnest. Check guests are headed in vaguely the right direction (aged parents, etc.)
– 5-7pm, will gloss over this time but suspect a tiny glass of wine will be involved, as will be arranging my books, posters, cutouts, etc.
– 7pm……….oh yes, THE time will have arrived.
It is tremendously exciting. I am tremendously excited and it feels fantastic to be officially launching Things He Never Knew into the public sphere. I’m very grateful to everyone who is making the effort to come (I know who you are now because I made a list last night). It’s going to be great to see so many people and sign so many books.
As I have a talk to deliver in under 12 hours and I have no fixed ideas as to how I’m going to do it or what I’m going to mention, I’m going to end here, say goodnight and I will post again on Friday to let you all know how it went. Hopefully I might have some photos by then, but we’ll see.
And if no new post appears on Friday you will know that Boris turned up and we’ve eloped.
